Hori Awa - Waikato, Tainui
Hori is proud to be Maori of Waikato, Tainui descent. He was born,
educated and continues to live in the community of Rahui Pokeka
(Huntly) and committed to his whanau.
Hori has extensive experience spanning 25 years in Iwi and Community
development at all levels. In Tainui Tribal Governance he has
previously been Chairman of his Marae committee and an elected
member to the executive of Tainui, and currently 10 years as
executive on Nga Marae Toopu, (grouping of 70 Marae throughout
Tainui). In the Community he was previously on a school Board of
Trustees, and spent 6 years on the Waikato Conservation Board. He is
currently Chairperson of Tiaki Tangata (forum for the community and
government agencies), Chairperson of Trust Waikato (responsible for
a $200 million asset), and a member of the Iwi Maori Council of the
Waikato District Health Board.
Hori's professional development includes financial management, an
Iwi and Community consultant to government agencies and corporations,
the last 15 years as CEO of Waahi Whaanui Trust, responsible for the
development and implementation of health, social, educational and
employment services for Maori and the wider community.
